How 2 Carve and Shave
A Foam Pumpkin

"Here's a Step by Step on the Entire Process"

Step #1 How to Prep the Pumpkin for a Pattern

The Main TOOL Used is a Dremel with a Flex Shaft

The Kit I use - is a Dremel 400 Series MultiPro Rotary Tool Kit
Sells for Aprox $100 from Lowes or Homedepote

NOTE: Before you start carving a fake Pumpkin with a dremel,
I gotta tell Ya, it makes one heck of a mess, with orange dust flying everywhere.
So you will want to do this in a Basement, Garage or Outside.

1. Print out 2 Patterns, One will be used for the Carve, the other just for Reference
Cut off Excess Paper around the Perimeter of one, leave about a 1/4" of White around it.

2. For this Tutor we will be using a Michaels Brand Fake Pumpkin
Bought Exclusively
at Michaels Craft Stores
Cost $20 During Halloween or $10 Before or After Halloween

3. First Step is to Cut a 4 inch Hole
on the Bottom
of the Fake Pumpkin

Mark the 4 inch Circle/Hole
on the bottom of the Pumpkin

TIP: I cut a 4 1/2 inch circle out of a plastic coffee lid to use as a template
And I keep this in my Carving tool Box, You will also need a Sharpie Marker.

4. Center and Trace the Circle Template
on the Kin Like This

A Perfect Circle EVERY-TIME!

BEFORE WE START Cutting
Here's a Few Useful Accessories
& Dremel TIPS

TIP: I have my Dremel Hanging From above from a wood beam, with the help of a little rope and a Eye-Hook

I made sure The Flex Shaft - reaches the pumpkin with no problem, With Lots of Slack

TIP

Buy the 7-Piece Drill Bit Set as a Starter!

The Drill Bits are Used For Cutting.

TIP

A Good Buy is a Heavy Duty, Foot Switch
The Dremel Goes ON and OFF only when you place your foot on the Switch
Saves Tons of Time
You Never have to Get up to Turn the Dremel ON or OFF!
You Just Step on the switch

You Can Buy a Heavy Duty Foot Switch Here for $25

LAST TIP

Buy a Dremel Chuck
This allows you to "quickly" and easily
change Dremel bits.

A HUGE Time Saver

OK Lets Cut the Circle
Put a 3/32 Drill Bit in Your Dremel
And Cut Out the Circle

Cut the Circle Out.

TIP

You can Use the bottom that you cut out, to hold your Exacto knives.
