Well after seeing Simon's carves I had to have a go at carving an egg. I decided I would combine it with a present for the better half for Xmas so I bought an ostrich egg from EBay and went at it with my dremel. I didn't realise what tough buggers these things are!!

Pattern is of course one of St0ney's

Have you ever carved an ostrich egg Simon?

Well done mate looks great.
I have a ostrich egg here but don't know what to do with it yet as i have a few ideas.
This is a good pattern for eggs as i done it on my first goose egg and fancy doing it on a chicken egg as well as it would look good on a chicken egg but we will see how it goes.
Simon.

Thanks for the comments.

@Liz: I don't really know how long it took as I did a little at a time over a long period but it was several hours for sure. I used the dremel at full speed and was primarily using the smallest ball shaped diamond bur (sorry - don't know which number or anything but I will check to see if I can find it)

@Simon: When you do start your ostrich egg I'd be interested in how it goes using your dental drill. I think I would like to do more of these and am wondering if it is worth getting the same drill.

Very cool egg carving Stuart.

That is such a great gift. Your wife is gonna love it.

You and Simon are doing a phenominal job on the egg carving.

I gotta get an egg and try it. Just need to find the bloody time. Work ain't cooperating on that issue.

I have been reading on the bits used and type of eggshells in egg carving. The ostrich egg seems to be one tough shell. Got Lemaster's back issues of TES and have looked at taking his online courses but I missed the beginners sessions cuz I did not have the time but I am hell bent on carving some eggs.

Again you and Simon do spectacular work and keep me motivated.
