Hi all. It's been a while since i've been here but i always check now and then to see what new patterns Stoney has done.
I haven't done many the past couple of years but just finished 2 today from real pumpkins i bought over a week ago so that's handy to know that they will last that long for the future.
One thing i did find out this year is that "pumpkin" carving at Halloween actually started here in Scotland but instead of using pumpkins which would have been few and far between, they used turnips instead, then the Americans took this idea back to the US and started using pumpkins which are a lot easier to carve and the craze took off from there.
I don't know if you get turnips in the US but they are a bit like parsnips.
So i decided why not try one.
They are a bit harder to gut as it is solid all way through but they are a lot less messy than pumpkins.
Also the main problem they have is they are small so limited to what i can carve on them.
So here's the first attempt plus all the other pumpkins i have done this year and 2 from last year.

Thanks mate.
Next thing i'm gonna try with a turnip is a shaded pattern to see how that does but i'm not expecting it to work very well.
