So was in Hobby Lobby today and saw some Funkins brand carvable/paintable eggs in 2 sizes. If they were pumpkins I would say Small and Medium. Seemed similar ( in outside toughness ) to the store bought Funkins of 2014. Thickness seemed about a 1/4 inch based on the hole the tag ran through. Are these new for this year? Has anyone tried carving one? Is it worth the time? Any feed back would be appreciated.

Ok. So I broke down and bought a large blue. I haven't finished the carve yet, 1/2 hour in. (Out of carving shape. :!con_p_Laugh2: ) Just doing a cut out as I wanted to test before I did a shaded. First impressions. The egg is a uniform 1/4 inch thick. Yeah! No dreaded black lines. Yeah! Paint is a uniform color. Yeah! The egg is designed with 2 flat surface about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter so the egg can be displayed in a horizontal or vertical position. A single 5 watt bulb will light it nicely, and more importantly will make a shaded design glow! The density of the foam cuts well with a dremel and drill bit, and seems to hold up well even when cutting fine detail!
So my over all impression is "Thank you Funkins! For listening to ALL our feed back!"
I will post pictures when the Egg is finished.

Ok I've finished. 3 pictures all 5 watt bulb, 1 clear, 1 green, 1 orange. I occasionally use colored bulbs in my pumpkins but most of the time I think they look strange. ( In this medium ( easter egg ) I have no preconceived notions of how it should look. ) The phrase Think Spring! is shaded. I hope next years pumpkins work as well!
That looks great. I hope next years pumpkins are like this as well.
Very nice job. I may have to try one.

Thanks Ken and Helenkate!
I appreciate your faith, but to my knowledge simondragon is the only one to have carved anything that small ( Simons 2013 carves he carved Chicken EGGS! ) :!con_p_Laugh2:helenkate wrote:Wow! Those are only 3 inches tall?!? Sorry, just re-read - that's the flat surface for displaying, not the carve surface. They're amazing - well done, sir!

Yay! glad to see someone bought some of these! I saw them and meant to go back and get one, but got sidetracked. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will be some left over from Easter! Love all the egg carves!!!!
