I needed a fire pit prop for my outside decoration.

Doh, I wish you were my neighbor. You would hate me though, always wanting to learn from you and copy your cool ideas..... Every time I mention you to my son he says "that's the guy that builds chain mail" ...... Yep, even my 9 year old knows about the Doh!!!!!!!!

Doh, talk the fools through this, ((me)) did you make the coals seperately or foam spot over the cables & bulbs so it became one fixed lump pinned to the board? ..sorry, it's not quite clear as to serviceability or otherwise.

& how do you create the balls consistent in appearance size, ..hot coals right?

All one piece Gus. No servicability. Next one i make will be with led for longer life. Set the lights, position sticks, and spray with foam. The foam expands to give the coal effect. It looks so goo i put it into the fireplace in the house.

All it needs is a home made chainmail type spark arrestor (whistles) ..that's a v. fancy guard, sadly open fireplaces can be massively inefficient (like minus 30%) ..which is why we ripped it out & put a web in place, ...my eco lifestyle won't take a day off (sorry bout that).

Oooh! Thank you for posting this! I have a cauldron fog machine that I wanted to set up over something that looks like fire this year (if it still works) and this will be perfect for that! Can you elaborate on what you painted?

Once the expanding foam dried we just used red and black spray paint. I sprayed it in the dark with the lights under the foam on so i could see how much paint to apply.
