My ornaments arrived today. I have a question for those of you that already carved yours, how did you attach the pattern? I normally glue mine on and that looks like it will work, but at $32 a pop, I don't want to take chances.

I hope funkins will sell these in stores next year.

I was nervous about the danged balls, too, since they were uncharted territory, and my budget didn't allow for any big mistakes... :!con_17:

In the end I just glued the pattern on as I normally would. My pattern was a straight cut-out pattern, but I was glad that I took the time to X-acto the outline first. The paint is a little brittle, and I think the x-acto step helped avoid chipping. I had very few areas that chipped. On the few that did, I found it pretty easy to clean them up and smooth out the line with a diamond bit.

The glue came right off and the ball shined right up. So much so, that trying to photograph it was a challenge. It seemed to reflect everything in the room!

Maybe Ken or others can offer up some advice on how to handle the shaded areas.

Have fun - let us know how it goes :)

I carved mine exactly like I did the pumpkins. Glued pattern, outline shaded areas before shading. They work great.

Thanks everyone! All the carves look great.

These will get done after Christmas and be part of next year's decorations! I need about a dozen more to go around the tree in my yard.
