I don't know if my expectations were too high or if I'm doing something wrong, but I'm having some issues shading on a new Funkin. I don't know what model this is...whatever Hobby Lobby is selling in the 12ish" size.??

So I've just shaded a small area, and very excited to pop a light in and see that beautiful glow St0ney has teased us with in his pictures. Picture's not the greatest but pretty obvious that the shading is not bright enough.

I thought I'd read that we didn't have to shade as deeply as the Gemmies to get a good glow, but maybe I'm mis-remembering.

Here's a pic with the light on so you can (maybe) see how deep I'm carving:

I will say this: It's really nice that although my shading isn't smooth, you can't tell when the pumpkin's lit. :!con_p_wink:

The foam is fairly thick -- I had to re-cut some cut outs because my drill bit didn't get deep enough -- so it may just be that I need to shade deeper and all will be well... I just thought I'd read that one of the great things about the new Funkins is that we don't have to shade deeply to get the nice glow.

I'm working on my first new Funkin right now and it looks to me like I will need to shade fairly deep to get the glow.

Okay First and Full most Stop Carving it, For now...

Let's try and get to the bottom of it...

Are you 100% Sure this is this Years Model ?
Or did Hobby Lobby break out some Old Stock?
Did it have the NEW Funkins Tag on it, that has stoneykins.com inside the tag.

your shading is Deep enough and the Kin Should Glow.
I tested Many Different Models of funkins, and they ALL Glowed.
But Honestly, I don't know If the Hobby Lobby pumpkin was one that I tested....

Either Way - That Pumpkin Has Issues.... Let me Bring this up with Funkins.
But I do need to make sure, That it's this years Pumpkin...

Doh, Your working on a commander, Funkins did not re-work the larger pumpkins yet.

But Because of the Size, these Will remain thicker than the smaller Models.
For the Large and Extra Large Funkins.

Classic #8 On down to the 6" = Normal Sized Funkins, and should Glow with a 5 to 15 watt Bulb.

Commander = Large.
Tall Giant, Small Giant, Olton = Xtra Large

These will require Brighter Bulbs, I would not Shade more than Half way through.
The Glow will need to Happen with Higher Wattage Lights.

Unfortunately I didn't think to save the tag but yes it did have the new tag. I specifically looked for the Stoneykins picture and website. That wouldn't have been on an old pumpkin, right? I didn't look at the year on the tag, just for the Stoneykins.

Maybe I should pick up a pumpkin at Michaels so I can compare for myself...I hope there is something wrong with this pumpkin because honestly I'm not seeing it much different than a Gemmy.

Let me know what other info I can get for you, or pictures, or whatever. Unfortunately we don't have the receipt anymore, but I purchased the pumpkin at the end of July I think.

I just Talked to Funkins, They Want the Pumpkin, and Will send you a NEW One...
They have a Concern that Maybe Hobby Lobby, Used a new Tag on an Older Pumpkin.
Not Sure if that is the case or Not... But they are now know about this....

Do you have a Box to put it in ? Let me Know, I will Schedule the Pick Up
(They Will send a Shipping Label for you to place on the Box.)

And they will ship you a New Pumpkin... I have to wait until I hear back from you.
Before Scheduling anything...

That's Fine and this is THIS YEARS TAG !

I'm hoping it is, that they Tagged an Old Kin, Or We need to Avoid HL Kins for shaded carves.

Let me Know About the Shipping Question, can You Box it up?
