Who's carved the half pumpkins? Was it pumpkinautopsy?

Did you find it any more difficult or finicky than other foam pumpkins? I feel like it's near impossible to get a smooth carve on it. I don't know if it's the foam or the ridges or what. Or maybe it's just me.

It's making me doubt any pumpkin carving skill I have. I thought it would be a quick thing to knock out... just some shading around our name. But no.... :!con_19:

I've been carving some of them, but cutout patterns only. I haven't had any difficulties, and kind of like having the flat stable base to work with. They are messier to carve though, with nothing to catch the cut pieces!

I picked up a couple of these on sale at Michael's... I am only planning to do cut outs on them. They just don't feel like they would be easy enough (for me) to shade. Will let you know how it goes....

I hung the half pumpkins on the tree in my yard. I'm pleased with the results.

Would it be fair of me to make the assumption that the initial wave of 1/2 pumpkins would come from dinged units cut with a very fine blade at the factories & repurposed (it's what i'd do if time & cost viable) & now an easier to stack / overlay & box qty's so a product in itself?

Wondering what blades & speed cut well enough to not warrant a respray (thus dulling the decent moulding lines of the original pumpkins visuals).

I have not carved the full pumpkins of this brand so I'm not sure how they compare. I *think* these are thinner than the regular pumpkins, though, so I don't think they are re-purposed damaged ones.

The half kins at Michaels crafts seemed to be crafted for a purpose to me and not re-purposed from damaged goods.

I agree with Doh. The half pumpkins are not re-purposed from damaged full 'kins. The ribbing in back is different. As to blades, since the patterns I carved in the half 'kins were basic, I just used an X-acto knife, and carved while watching TV.

I carved 4 half pumpkins. The first one I ground the paint off the back and then tried shading a cut out pattern the pumpkin felt to thin and made me nervous so I went ahead and cut it out. Bear in mind my experience with shading in fairly low.

If I had another I might try again. The white ones seemed like grinding the paint off the inside may not be necessary.
