So I'm looking into buying a Dremel this year and taking my carving to the next level. What do you guys recommend? I want something that can do both foam and real.

I'd prefer cheap, but will splurge if it is worth it.

I only dabble in shaded pumpkins (real or foam), and am not an expert, but I can turn out some decent carves using a regular old variable speed Dremel. Be sure to spring for the flex shaft and keyless chuck (speed chuck). It will be much easier to manage longer carving sessions, and will save your hands. Of course, you even can get very elaborate and add multiple Dremels and foot pedals... it just depends on your workshop setup, how many carves you do, and your budget :)

So Stoney, does this still hold true or has something better caught your attention? Just thinking about getting a second one and haven't dabbled in the foot pedal option yet, so checking out all options.
