I know I sound like a broken record but hopfully this year I can start shading on a foam pumpkin. But I have to tell you I'm really nervous. But one question I have is, is it better to use sticky paper which I have or glue your pattern to the pumpkin? I can get the glue no problem I just don't know what makes it easier to shade.
Also when shading for the first time should I try an easier pattern till I get the hang of it or just jump right in? I really want to shade my Sybil pattern stoney made custom for me, but I lnow it will take some time.

Totally a personal choice. Start slow. Try both. Decide which one you prefer.

I don't normally do this, But I disagree with the Doh-Boy

For the First one (or first few) I would go with the Glue method...

It will give you a good bond, for as long as it takes to carve the pumpkin.
The sticker paper sometimes pulls paint off, and is hard to remove.
Doh has tricks to make it easier to remove the sticker, like hitting it with a hair dryer or heat gun...

I think The Sybil Pattern is do-able for a First Shaded Carve...
Do the Cut-Outs First, then the Shading.

Awww, thank you too Stoney for helping me with my first shaded pattern. Like I said I'm very nervous, I don't know why but cut -outs have always been my comfort zone. It's always nice to know the good people on this forum are here to help. Thank you so much!

Do you have a picture of your hulk pumpkin? I would love to see it! I'm scared to death trying a shaded pattern this year, but I really want to start. I have a lot of Stoney's cool shaded patterns. Including my Sybil custom pattern he made me!

Short Answer is YES !

If your carving Detailed patterns on foam pumpkins,
I 100% Say glue the pattern on. with the white school glue...

I only use transfer paper for real kins, and windowkins....

For easy cut outs Go with either sticker paper, or transfer-paper.
There's also the Stick and Carve, ...

Omgoodness! Texntesa, he's awesome!!! You did a fantastic job on him. I hope I do as well as you did on him with my Sybil custom pattern. I'm a little nervous because this will be my first shaded pattern. 😆
