So I got the 12" extension rod and the paint stripper wheel but when I use the paint stripper on the extension rod it spins until I touch it to the pumpkin and then just the rod spins...I'm not very mechanically inclined so I have no idea how to make it work

I had that problem when the drill's battery didn't have enough juice.

So...the rod keeps spinning but the stripper wheel stops? You need to tighten the allen set screw in the top of the rod using an allen wrench.

Also to add, Don't know what wheel your Using,

Some have a Bolt that goes through the Top of it.
If you have that type, make sure that Bolt is Very Tight.

You may need a Pliers to hold the Stem, and a Wrench or Socket Wrench to Tighten the Bolt.


Like this one has a Bolt with nut on bottom



If no Bolt, then as Doh said tighten with a Allen wrench, the two small allen Screws.
On the Stem of the extension rod.

These are what I'm working with so maybe that'll help some

Its the set screw on the end of the extension rod. You insert the stripper wheel into the extension rod and you have to tighten the set screw on the end of the rod to hold the wheel in place.

Those dont work as as well because you cannot tighten them. I had the same problem until I switched to a standard bit extension rod, No problems since.

I was having the same problem and from the picture I think it was exactly the same.
With the quick change extension (from Lowes) it grips with 3 points into the round stem of the paint stripper.
If you apply too much pressure it stops the paint stripper and spins a groove into the stem and the points of the extension don't have anything to bite into.

The way I fixed it was to pull the paint stripper stem out a little ways so the points have something to bite into. Of course after doing that I ending up putting another groove into the stem so had to find an area in the middle so be careful and don't put too much pressure on the stripper when you are removing the lines.

Also I think it might be good to suggest people get a regular extension rod vs. the quick change or look for a paint stripper with a hexagonal stem that locks into the extension rod better without a chance of spinning.

P.S. For my day job I work with some buyers at Target and have them spreading the information that next year they should make sure to get rid of the lines inside their pumpkins if they want to see more sales.

Target = they also need to make the kin Wider
