Forgot to say (in case you aren't familiar with pred family of drugs, doubtful though).

It can be administered long term, but does bring in its own problems which need monitoring & countering as you go along, but obv vets are not keen on it as a lifetime drug, as a drug it is pretty damn cheap here, prednisolone, prednicare, though there may be different licensing laws in the states, Dex not licensed for animal use in the uk.

So if you can find a balance with a drug like pred (or PLT painkiller & steroid, 1mg night & day) one of our bitches was on that LONG term 2.5yrs, for spinal spondylosis, that was till we sorted her out with the diet & garlic, ..she lived till 11+ pretty happily, & is the dog that really made us change the feeding process so drastically, as I do bang on about.

Due to long term steroids she was known as "the barrel" but hey, her life quality was nigh on back to before with the rear leg mobility, very stoical dog imho, ..she had to be.

Well...we are still fighting but to be honest....she looked at me today with that "I'm tired of the battle" look.

I will have to confer with the wifey and make plans for Zehno Bean's trip to the bridge.

i'm not responsible for any tears shed on this one Doh, but this is worth watching to bang it home as to "family"

So watch this, end to end (it has humour) & then show the rest of those involved in the heartbreaking decision.

We do what is best for a family member not what we necessarily want.
Just for the record, that video causes emotional fissures in me from the 1st few seconds in.

Chin up

Yesterday was the day.

In the morning I had to pull her kennel apart to get her out. I had to us a towel to get her to her food dish and out to go potty.

She went most of the morning just laying in the sun on her doggie bed.

@ 15:00 MST she received her wings.

Gutted for your family Doh.

A house without boxers is a lot less chaos, but a lot less fun, ..very quiet, & much as I curse ours out every day, bad times when this happens, but it had to happen to help a much loved family member out of pain.

You did what you had to because you loved the little brindle bugger, & for that she is sure to have understood & loved you back right up to the last moment.

she's free now.
